Educational Outcomes Award

Earlier this year CCHS was placed in the top 10 per cent of selective schools for education attainment and progress and given an Educational Outcomes Award by the national Schools, Students and Teaching Network. They said that their award “recognises the professionalism, commitment and hard work of the leaders, teachers and students at Colchester County High School for Girls.”

The Network provides teaching and curriculum support to schools and their Chief Executive, Sue Williamson, described CCHS as excellent. She added, “We know how hard teachers work to ensure the success of every child”.

New Building Projects

The photograph of the school (right) is somewhat outdated as
all the windows have been changed. There is also much
building work continuing behind the school -
brief outline below. (See CCHS website for more details and
plans.)
The school is going to build a new block of seven classrooms,
attached to the dining room extension. It will be located mainly
on the current car park space (previously netball courts),
moving to around the rear of the existing sixth form and
science block. They will convert S4 and S5 into a suitable space
to accommodate the Colchester Teacher Training Consortium,
refurbish the laboratories in G17 and F4 and remove the old
demountables. They are also planning a new multipurpose hall
that will provide a large space for PE, exams and extra
classrooms. It is hoped this will also incorporate the pool as well.

The whole school should benefit from the changes, particularly the sixth form with its enlarged space. The new buildings will provide modern large classrooms and flexible space. While the building is taking place, there will be some restricted areas and temporary routes around the site – but this will not affect lessons and normal routines.
The current projects should be completed in stages until the end of Easter next year. The next large project, subject to all required approvals, will start in January 2018 for completion by August 2018.
