Editor’s Notes

Marsyl talks about “news of past pupils” but we receive so few items, just memories which, of course, make very interesting reading but please let me have more news of what you are doing or have achieved in the past few months or years!  On a topical note were the following lines a premonition 50 years ago of today’s Brexit farce and Theresa May?  In the 1968-69 School Magazine Jennifer Harrison of Middle V wrote this short article entitled “On going in to bat.

“I sit on the grass outside the pavilion, slowly finishing the daisy chain I started at fourth deep.  Suddenly a voice breaks into my sleepy daydreams telling me loudly that it is my turn to bat.  Unwillingly I take up my bat, my enthusiastic team-mates telling me in deafening tones that it is imperative that I score a rounder.  I trudge to the batting square where I am confronted by the fast bowler.  More alert now I wait for what seems like hours while the bowler misses her catch and goes to retrieve the ball.  At last she is standing in her square, and I realise that the ball is hurtling towards me.  For once I actually hit it, and it sails gracefully upwards, and then descends like a stone.  The bowler eagerly rushes towards it.  Everyone holds their breath ... Out!”

How could we interpret this possibly analogy?

I have not received many articles but thank you to everyone who has sent one in.   It is not difficult to email me (or call me for my postal address) and no great literary work is required!    There are details of our different Colchester events and the relevant reply slips at the end of this newsletter.
