Memories

Rachel Nickell (1980-1985)

Rachel was murdered on Wimbledon Common, on 15th July, 1992, whilst walking her dog.  She was 23 years old.  Police had only one suspect, Colin Stagg, but he was released after the trial, in 1994, collapsed.  The crime was unsolved until 2008, when Robert Napper, a serial offender, admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, although he had been questioned by police as early as December 1995.

Rachel's son, Alex Hanscombe, has written a book - Letting Go: A True Story of Murder, Loss and Survival - about the event he witnessed as a child and how he coped with his trauma.
