News from Old Girls

I found the latest Newsletter really interesting - so many thanks. I left CCHS at 17, to join the QARANC, where I later trained to be an SRN, serving in the UK, and Far East.
I was taught by Miss Overy (I used to think, "What an appropriate name for a biology teacher!"), also Mr Stachnik.

I also remember all the fundraising for the (outdoor - and quite chilly) swimming-pool! That particular fete that I can think of also was going to have the Lower 4th (myself included) pretending to be animals, to Saint-Saens' music "Carnival of Animals". Does anyone else remember that? We had several tries, I believe, but thankfully we never had to perform it at the actual fete. What a relief! There were pictures in the local press, mentioning the fete.
Most of the memories I have are quite mundane ones, really, BUT I do remember a music teacher, Miss Wiltshire (arrowed, left), who was obviously a fan of Joan Baez, and would sometimes play her records to us.
I have always liked Joan Baez's music, too (probably because of this), and was lucky enough to see her perform, some years ago, and was not disappointed.
There was an art teacher, Mrs Mollie Brown (arrowed right), who told of going to Greece(?) and being there when there was an earthquake. Funny what you remember, but I thought at the time it was so exciting! I was never any good at art, so these stories helped pass the lesson time for me!
Do you recognise anyone else in these pictures, taken from the 1961 whole school photo? Many faces seem familiar, but names escape me! Identification and comments would be very helpful and interesting!
