Catherine Bullen (left), who attended CCHS from 1991 to 1998, was a dedicated medical student and travelled to Namibia, Zambia and Tanzania in 2002 to volunteer in hospitals. She was only 22 years old when she contracted and died from a very severe strain of gastroenteritis. ​​​ Her parents, Roger and Linda (below right) from Mersea, set up a foundation to continue her work and donations have now reached £750,000. Linda is a registered nurse in UK, and Namibia, and spends some of her time there volunteering at the local hospitals.​​​ ​​
