Best Schools in Essex (May, 2026)
An independent website, that has done "all the homework" on 30,000 schools around the UK, has revealed its top 10 secondary schools in and around Colchester. Date from School Guide, a website that assesses UK schools, using official government performance data, Ofsted reports, and parent feedback, has highlighted the borough's nighest-rated state secondary schools. The site says, "Unbiased and updated daily, all of School Guide's information is from official sources, and we offer a one-stop-shop for all key statistics.
"We add new information on schools every day, and refresh all the data on the site every month, so that the information is reliable, accurate, and trustworthy. Based 100 per cent on official data, we have a unique system of grading schools, to give parents a reliable snapshot of how each school performed in the last academic year. School Guide also provides a short description of each school, based on its most recent Ofsted report, where available."
It ranks Colchester County High School for Girls at the top of the list of the 10 best secondary schools in the Colchester area. The school, in Norman Way, was deemed "outstanding" in all five categories of quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and sixth form provision, in its latest Ofsted report. According to School Guide, a huge 100 per cent of pupils achieved a grade 4, or higher, in five or more GCSEs, including maths and English, in the most recent exams. The national average is 38 per cent.
